Prior to the water fountain donation, women explained how it was hard in their old age to walk 5 to 10km to find drinkable water especially after a long day of working in the farm to find food to feed their children.
Moreover, men explained that the increase in cases of cholera were due to a lack of sanitary latrines and the scarcity of nearby drinkable water. This created a situation where children were forced to miss school to accompany their mothers on a long journey away from home to find clean, drinkable water.
This is the vicious cycle the DAKS Foundation want to break. No child should have to choose between education and fetching water.
